The Berlin Day in New York City was a big Success
The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, has opened the BERLIN DAY in New York
BERLIN DAY was planned and executed, together with Berlin Partner and CREATE BERLIN, as a promotional activity for creative potential Berlin’s and as an important exchange platform for business representatives in both cities. BERLIN DAY was a kick off for the “Destination: Berlin”, the biggest sales exhibition of a kind for Berlin design supported by The New Yorker Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) taking place from May to December 2007.
The BERLIN DAY highlight was the showcase event “Suitcases from Berlin” whereby the Berlin-based artists presented suitcases filled with contents and pieces of their own choice that represented their Berlin.
Werner Aisslinger, DJ Paul van Dyk, Graft, the Illustrator Olaf Hajek, Fashion Designer Michael Michalsky and the publishing house Gestalten Berlin, Product Designers like Mykita and Zeha as well as the fashion labels Bless and Kaviar Gauche and the band MIA show their personal view of the city, and give a snapshot of the contemporary Berlin art and design scene.
Opening of the exhibition „Koffer aus Berlin“ – „Suitcases from Berlin“ on May 17th has been celebrated in presence of the city mayor Klaus Wowereit, international guests and designers.
